I think Juliet is sick. I have a vet appointment for her this evening, but I'm so worried about her. : (
What happened to her? I hope things turn out okay… :(
She hasn't been eating or using her litterbox for the past day. And she's acting strange…chewing everything(even more than usual) and hiding under the bookshelf. Things she usually does when she's pissed off.
I finally got her to eat a little bit of lettuce and some veggie puffs. And she's drinking, so at least that gives me more time to get her all fixed up. If bunnies stop drinking that's really bad.

I dunno what AA and AB are! Cons I'm guessing. :]
Well I think I mentioned a couple things, but we'd want someone who has actually set up with a table and done sales or something at least. (Oz and I have both been to cons just as attendees.) MrRiot is meant to also be a guest, and we know from his other quackcast that he's set up tables and mostly does a lot of sketches and stuff at cons, and tries to sell some of his books/prints/etc. So someone with a similar-but-different experience? I suspect we'll be talking about stuff like choosing a con, how to prepare, what kind of costs there are, how to attract attention, how to get people to buy your stuff, etc. :] So if you think you can comment on that type of thing, then let me know!
Ideally I was hoping to get someone who could fill in the “how to be one of the presenters/panelists” type of things, but it seems like there is no one here who would have that sort of advice, who has been active on DD lately anyway. :I (Advice from experience I mean. I was a panelist once at a local con, but it was by virtue of my being one of the only actual webcomic artists in attendance. Hm, Hawk was there too… though I dunno how involved he ever got.) It's not important though, it just seemed like an interesting ‘raising your profile’ activity.
AA = Artist Alley XD Sorry. AB in Anime Boston.
I've had a few tables before but not one in the last few years. I'm doing Anime Boston 2012 (I think I wrote 2011… I had to get up at 5 am for graduation. @_@)
I don't know if I'd be a good fit, I… pretty much sell deco boxes and crafty things. Next year will be my first time selling a printed comic. Sorry ) :

Hm… well that might be interesting in a ‘what other stuff you can sell at a con’ way… but hm, yeah, I mean it is a webcomics podcast so maybe we should stick to that? :S I probably should have started looking for people sooner, haw. Or maybe we can just have another one in the fall after people have just done a bunch of cons, and we can try to hit some of the stuff we'll surely miss out the first time?

Got woken up by a text message at 7 in the morning, it was from my dad saying: “GUESS WHAT I'M EATING!” He'd sent me a picture of himself eating this wierd cooked thing with a spikey foot. My answer was: “A small furry animal lulled into a false sense of security and then grilled, perchance?”
His repsonse: "It's an echidna, it tasts like shit.“
Not only am I wondering WHY he's eating a cooked echidna, I'm wondering how he knows what shit tastes like, and why he interuptted my terribly important sleep pattern to tell me this. Mind you, I'm no better than him, because I responded saying: ”I didn't know they were edible."

ozoneoceanThis is what volcanic ash looks like, close up:
So what is “it” that causes those reactions? Sulphur compounds that form strong acids when exposed to moisture in the air? Phosphates doing the same sort of thing?

Compared to that, some normal sand that has been exposed to the natural polishing effect of the elements:

This tiny difference makes all the difference. It's like someone smashing a piece of glass and grinding it to fine powder. While it looks like fine powder, it's actually just a mass of fine splinters. Fine grain dust can be irritating, when you get it in your eyes but this stuff actively cuts your cornea. The abrasion effect it has on your skin is hastened by its ease to penetrate it.
Those were my two cents.

@Product: I'm always impressed on how you can find such great support material. I think we should call you Professor instead of Product.
I had wondered if it was the shape of the particle instead of an actual chemical burn. I think that unless you live near volcanoes, most of us associate ash with wood ash, which would be a much softer particle. But seein (Xtreme close ups) is believin.

The good news is that while the eruption started very strong (10 times stronger then the last one), it's been dwindling in strength ever since. Still… that darn cloud is gonna be bothering us until it starts to rain.

That picture makes me sad product. I know the bond between farmers and their animals. Not only are they their money makers, they're part of the family. you raise them, feed them. they're practically family. So i can see they're running in the pictures, and i know they're frantic. it pulls on my heart string.

Product PlacementThankyou mister smartipants professor!ozoneoceanThis is what volcanic ash looks like, close up:
So what is “it” that causes those reactions? Sulphur compounds that form strong acids when exposed to moisture in the air? Phosphates doing the same sort of thing?
But I still remained curious and so had a look on the US government website for this sort of thing, and it turns out my suspicious RE sulphuric acid were right as well;
Soluble components…so, if you feel burning, you may actually be getting chemical burns O_O
Freshly fallen ash grains commonly have surface coatings of soluble components (salts) and/or moisture. These components can make ash mildly corrosive and potentially conductive. The soluble coatings are derived from the interactions in an eruption column between ash particles and volcanic-gas aerosols, which may be composed of sulphuric and hydrochloric acid droplets with absorbed halide salts. The amount of available aerosols varies greatly between eruptions of similar size and volume.
…
Volcanic eruptions inject water vapour (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), hydrochloric acid (HCl), hydrofluoric acid (HF) and ash into the atmosphere. HCl and HF will dissolve in water and fall as acid rain whereas most SO2 is slowly converted to sulphuric acid (H2SO4) aerosols. Ash particles may absorb these aerosol droplets onto their surfaces.
It says it's only mild though, but if the sharp shards cut you first, acid in those wounds will make it hurt more.
I can't imagine there's too much HF about though, that stuff will kill you pretty fricken quick, or at least badly injure you, only need teeny amounts.

I'm very sorely tempted to put a Star Trek fan webcomic on Comic Fury just to see
what would happen…
There have been some very good Star Trek fan webcomics so it's a very steep order. There's even an excellent one done with action figures. But still no facial expressions. So everyone looks like Stallone or Arnold with these blank tough-guy expressions and the women have these slight smiles all the time no matter what is happening or what they are saying.
“He's dead Jim!” And there's this whimsical smile on McCoy's head sculpt.

ozoneoceanNow, now. You asked me directly and I gave you an answer. My answers were also mostly based on experience, as I can vouch that this stuff isn't exactly smooth to the touch.
Thankyou mister smartipants professor!
It's true that hydrofluoric acid is one of the byproducts of volcanic eruptions but we normally worry about it after it's gotten into the nearby soil, cause it's bad for our livestocks to eat the grass that's been coated with that stuff. Before then, it's mostly in gaseous form, making it very dangerous to be near volcanoes but further away it's floating up high into the sky until it bonds with a cloud and rains on us.
Although I suppose that few particles of it coating the ash flakes, isn't exactly making them more comfortable.
On the plus side, volcanic ash has very positive long term effects on the area where it falls over. It's a natural fertilizer, in addition to darkening the soil, thus increasing it's ability to absorb heat from the sun, which also benefits cold climate plants. It also boosts plankton growth in the seas where ash clouds falls, which has positive long term benefits for marine life.
Those were my two cents.

I know, I can't believe he sent me pictures of him doing so either. But he works with traditional Aboriginal groups as a Native Title Barrister handling land claims, and apparently echidna was a traditional dish for the “elders” of the clan so they gave it to him. I think they were having a laugh.
