Yeah, I know you mentioned them before but none of those guys have logged in since Oct-Dec of last year and none of them have any comics currently running here. Since we've had a couple people lately who are less prominent on DD than they used to be, I'd kinda like to get someone who participates on the site a little more for this one. :]

Elektro?

:/ well I just learnt there is no point I trying to help people. Also, I kept drifting in and out of sleep last night, and having odd dreams because of it, all revolving around my bedroom, and… computer games for some reason…

Ironic because this forum was discussing Lucid dreaming ony a few days ago.

Ah but haven't you heard? One of the first steps towards achieving lucid dreaming is to realize that lucid dreaming is possible :รพ

That totally would have been better. Especially since my daiquiri date stood me up.

Okay, coming back to the forums was the first step. Just reread my entire comic. So that was, uh, another step. Next I reckon I'm gonna draw and post my “I'm not dead” update. So see? I'm getting in gear to get back to the comic. No effin' way I'm gonna let a two year hiatus kill my baby.

I was at Wizard World with DD in 07. Met Creepy Carly, EEN, Amelius, Riot, Zac, and many other DDers (obviously since we were representing DD :P)

I've been to one local convention in AR. And been to 2 webcomic conventions in Texas.

WOAH. That is insane, frigheningly insane.

Yes, it is the idea of Lucid dreaming. Though th emoment I realised I was dreaming my mind must have collapsed and said: “ABORT MISSION, ABORT, ABORT!”

——-

I'm working on an art assignment regarding a “social/cultural” issue that I need to feel strongly about. I picked the general mistreatment of bears in Asia, but… I'm starting to wish I hadn't, I'm finding it very upsetting looking at and drawing images of beaten up Moon bears in bile farms and sloth bears part of the Indian dancing bear trade. I know I'm supposed to feel strongly about the issue, that's the whole point of the assignment, and I do, but this is just so… unspeakably cruel, but now I'm wondering if its too much.

Hrm. I'm sketching out my social commentary piece for my art class, and I don't think I can do it without showing boobs. I guess my art teacher will have to live with that…I'm not too worried about him, but it might be awkward to paint in front of a bunch of teenagers.

They're wearing windbreakers. It's not to shield themselves from the cold. They're protecting themselves from the ash. Trust me, you don't want that stuff in your underwear and hair. They're still gonna get some in those places but at least windbreakers are gonna limit their exposure to it.
Those were my two cents.

Hmmm…my thoughts never transfer over correctly. It's pretty bad, that's not sarcasm. But thanks to holly wood i thought volcano ash clouds would have more umph to them. Like the first picture of the eruption.

And the rain cloud thing is that “it's not even beautiful” I was thinking something more along these lines:

Hyena, you're doing a lot of work, if you post a page, you'll do more work than i've done in the last 3 years here. I'll be uber jealous of your motivation. then i'll pull ADD and forget about it.

You don't want it on your bare skin either. It burns. The wife just had to go to Volcano National Park in Hawai'i. Little pin prick burns all over my arms. She wanted to track down the most recent lava flow too and drive along all the craters. And I said no crater side drives there was already enough ash on the car. Fortunately it rains somewhere on the island every day so it washed the ash off the rental car.

Heh… I hope the volcano north of me doesn't erupt. And if it does, I hope the wind
doesn't head south. Then again anything's possible… especially that one time when
a super typhoon passed and hit us, then doubled back and HIT US AGAIN!!!

Whoa… this forum is messed up a bit.. my entry window extends all the way to the end
of the screen and beyond. I've had to type this whole thing in and it didn't even hit
the second line (hence why it looks like it's been formatted).

After watching the old Star Trek episode “The Doomsday Machine” I'd like to know if
there's a rule in the Navy where an officer of another ship who takes over a captain's
ship can be overrulled by that captain if he's not on the ship. I mean when Kirk says
“Mister Spock! I order you to assume command on my personal authority as Captain of the
Enteprise” when the Commodore attempts to use his ship to engage the giant planet eating…

“turd”…

However, I'm pretty sure an officer's command is also based on how the crewmen feel about
him. So if he tried to pull rank on the first mate he'd end up with a mutiny…

I don't think that's really the case- how the men feel is no more a matter on ships than it is in any service. All the crew have it drilled into them to automatically follow the command structure.
On many merchant ships I think the first mate IS the first officer… the captain is called the Ship's Master, then there might be the Bosun, Bosun's mate etc. depending on the country and the traditions.

Navies are a bit different because you have officers and non-commissioned officers. I think operationally commissioned officers would always outrank non-coms and always assume command ahead of them… unless it was something strange like a doctor or chaplin who were commissioned officers but not trained duty officers? I dunno. :(
Anyway, I don't think they really have a “first mate” in the navy, just a bunch of non-comm ranks all bellow full officers. The Navy equivalent to the “first mate” must be the “first officer” or “executive officer”.

Why do you think I said that you didn't want it in your underwear? And getting it in your hair is gonna give you the worst case of itchy head, ever!

Hell, I hate it when there's just a tiny bit of it in the air. You don't initially realize that you need any protection, when you go outside and end up with red eyes and a case of sore throat.
Those were my two cents.

All military branches have commissioned and non-commissioned officers. NCO's are normally enlisted. An easy way to tell the difference is a commissioned officer is someone who is “smart enough” to lead. They went to college, they took special classes, they “know” what they're doing. NCO's have been there, and done that. They have shown that they can lead. They do twice the amount of work, have half the pay, and twice the respect among the men.
NCO's will never lead anything bigger than a squad (4-5 guys) while officers will climb the chain all the way to leading the entire military. Chaplains and Doctors are commissioned.

The american navy calls their NCO's “petty officers”. I haven't memorized you other peoples ranks yet. Just that you keep it simple, and don't have steps.

so I can't go back and read the 73 pages, but I just wanted to say “meep” and “hello!”

I haven't done a con since Long Beach Comic Con in October. I work for an apparel line “Nature's Mistake” (naturesmistake.net) so I get stuck spending my time at apparel shows for work so no more time for conventions. It's all still fun and I may get some Creepy Carly shirts outta the deal.

Good luck everyone!

I haven't been to any cons since I moved to Texas 6-7 years ago. San Antonio just doesn't have any which is shocking because there are comic shops all over the city. I know that there are some in nearby cities such as Austin and Corpus Christi, but I was never able to get to them. Back when I lived in the Tampa Bay area they had them all the time both big and small there, and I even got to go to Mega Con in Orlando once which was really cool. Now that I'll be moving back to Florida in a couple of weeks perhaps I'll get to go to the Mega Con again someday.

I dunno what AA and AB are! Cons I'm guessing. :]

Well I think I mentioned a couple things, but we'd want someone who has actually set up with a table and done sales or something at least. (Oz and I have both been to cons just as attendees.) MrRiot is meant to also be a guest, and we know from his other quackcast that he's set up tables and mostly does a lot of sketches and stuff at cons, and tries to sell some of his books/prints/etc. So someone with a similar-but-different experience? I suspect we'll be talking about stuff like choosing a con, how to prepare, what kind of costs there are, how to attract attention, how to get people to buy your stuff, etc. :] So if you think you can comment on that type of thing, then let me know!

Ideally I was hoping to get someone who could fill in the “how to be one of the presenters/panelists” type of things, but it seems like there is no one here who would have that sort of advice, who has been active on DD lately anyway. :I (Advice from experience I mean. I was a panelist once at a local con, but it was by virtue of my being one of the only actual webcomic artists in attendance. Hm, Hawk was there too… though I dunno how involved he ever got.) It's not important though, it just seemed like an interesting ‘raising your profile’ activity.
