ya know I've been thinking about a quote that went something like “a writer's work often show the worst part of themselves” and that got me thinking that recurring themes in my stories could tell ya a lot about a writer so here are some of mine! (please don't judge me too hard lol)

-Possession
-twist villains
-a need for companionship or friends in general
-obsessive lovers
-manipulation
-the indomitable human spirit
-sympathetic villains
-selfishness
-feeling like a failure
-doomed lovers
-single parent taking in monstrositys but some how they have a good relationship and they end up (somewhat) Normal
-villains who don't want to hurt people but end up doing so and feel really guilty then end up going all the way because they feel they can never be forgiven but if they just talked it out it would have probably been okay (yeah toootaly not projecting)
-aaand demons and angels for some reason

might add more if any come to mind, feel free to share! (none of the themes need to be particularly negative)

I'm confused; are we talking about themes (as in subject matter, overarching storylines/plots, underlying messages/morals) or tropes (character types, plot devices, storytelling convictions)?

Based on the original answers I think both. Or anything that might be recurring in our stories. I don't think we need things predefined as generally observed tropes in order to draw patterns when it comes to our own works and those patterns don't have to be acknowledged / observed by others in fiction, generally.

I feel like I should only mention the reocurring themes that you can detect within my comics so far, so not to risk spoiling anything. So here it is.

-Anthropmorphic characters
-Comics referencing one another
-Post Apocalypse
-Flashbacks
-Medical health problems
-Swearing
-Bizarre humour
-Murder
-Shameless nudity
-Characters oversexualized, mostly the female ones
-Sexual situations that are of a reprehensible nature. (Including adultery, rape and attempted necrophilia)

Recurring themes? Of course! Plenty, if I got that right by taking them as style-defining recurring tropes and motifs.

- animal characters
- custom question mark that either reflects a characters' role or his fur pattern and colour.
- female main character (that happened kind of accidentally, so in the long run it may not hold true any more, but I like them)
- lots of body language
- mostly domestic settings
- if the setting is not domestic, it's more often than not turns out to be remembered or dreamed by a character (I might change this in the future!)
- stubbornness
- most characters, with only a select few stand-out exceptions, are very set in their ways and not very bright
- failed communication caused by many characters' relative isolation in their mindset, generally as a source of humour. / Failed human to animal communication, because humans sometimes forget that their distinct weird way of thinking is often not shared by other species.
- stupidity is often a character's own fault by wilfully keeping their mind locked in the little box it's in
- down-to-earthness (Is that a word? - Oh well, now it is.), sometimes bordering on gleeful cynicism
- most props are old stuff / most objects in the backgrounds like furniture, cars and so on are old
- being open, upright and honest vs. being false and trying to hide behind an elaborate mask*
- appearances vs. actually being*
- Laziness is only bad if it's in the mind instead of just on the outside.*
- sleeping and rude awakenings
- dreams
- word-play and visual puns aplenty
- Easter eggs, sometimes as relatively obscure references
- either plain white background or ludicrously detailed background
- no clear-cut heroes or villains or even concept of good or bad
- natural laws and behavioural patterns work just as in real life, unless I come up with something funnier
- cartoon curses that may or may not reflect on the speaker and/or the situation

* and not necessarily getting the just desserts for it, but quite the opposite - at least up to a certain point - because if I had to name one single thing this world most suffers from I'd say it's this.

I'm not sure at all in what way or by how much this can be taken to reflect the worst parts of me, though. If it does at all, I'm afraid I kinda like my dark side.

None. Each one is completely thematically unique from every other one. Really.

-violence
-witty dialogue
-unashamed nudity
-loss of individual identity
-boobs
-irreverence

-Weak, sloppy, inconsistent artwork
-Hackneyed, cliche writing
-Replies to comments

Edit:
Oh, there's also

-forceful romantic suitors
-characters who seem a bit “stuck” in life, sometimes happily, sometimes not.
-dry, sort of middle-of-the-road witty type comments.
-exaggerated emotional reactions and dumbness from some characters.
-romantic subplots
-characters with noticeable height differences from each other
-'buddy comedy' tropes
-sensibilities found in 90's sitcoms and 60's comics.
-awkwardly overwritten final acts in stories

The main theme of Pinky TA is that war is a bad thing for humans to experience, even though we tend to glorify it in art and media and people often worship cool looking weapons.

Nakamura Rex:
Furry.
Lots of sex.
Trauma.
Dealing with trauma.
Dealing with conflict without resorting to violence first.
Fetishes and kinks on display.
Fast, brutal fights.
Magic can fix a lot of things, but not everything.
Emotions can do a number on people.
There's no getting over bad stuff, just living with it until it is almost gone.
Decisions done in desperation and dispar and the long term effects.

If I look at my comics I can see similarities (e.g. in the charachters), but I'm not sure about “theme” similarities.

I do think of what is the “theme” of each story I write, before I start writing it (except from the first webcomic, where I had to detect what was the theme in the end to write the final monologue), but I see those themes as different.
(The first webcomic comic I made and the one I'm making now have a similar theme of violence, but the two in the middle don't, or as explicitly).

Perhaps there are “unconscious themes” that are common to my comics, different from the ones I consciously put in, but I can't see them.

My comic takes a lot of elements from old dead comic projects, so a lot of similarities and themes were carried over.

-Slice of life/ character driven story.
-Recycled characters from previous failed projects. Just give them a fresh coat of paint and it's like they're brand new! lol
-Stupid humor
-Size difference in couples. I'm a sucker for big/tall man+ tiny woman pairings. XD
-Social anxiety/introversion
-Depression/loneliness
-Awkward humor
-A-hole loser main character
-Takes place in NJ. Write what you know, I guess? lol
-Obnxiously cute romantic fluff. My comic is not at that point yet, but it'll happen eventually.
