I like the new beta site design but the colors scare me away from using it…everything is so garish when you actually browse the page. Maybe a dark grey would be better, same tone as the blue but it wont have the same clash on my eyes when i scroll the page.

Which is why I suggested customizable color schemes. That way people can choose their own colors and we'll get rid of all future remarks like this.
Those were my two cents.

That's a great idea, but even so, the green should not be the default. If someone wants to choose that colour they can go ahead, but that shouldn't be what people first see upon coming here.

When I opened up the beta site my dad remarked right away that he didn't like the bright green, and that the white writing on that green was hard to read. So it's not just me. There seem to be a few issues with text not being easily legible, actually.

I like the design other than the colours, though. I'm so happy that the scroll-over thing for the comic icons works now. :)

The latest color scheme isn't bad, but being a purist, I'd still like to see the neon green changed to some form of orange to make it feel more like DD.

i have no idea why there's a “create button” right on the front page. there's really no reason why people would need to be able to make entire new comics quite THAT quickly, unless we count sprite comicers that don't want the time to consider if they made something worth posting, and i sure don't consider it a plus.

there's plenty of other places that could have gone. having it right on the front page seems silly, like a gun range renting out firearms in its parking lot.

The site will eventually have customizable color schemes. It's planned functionality but it's still probably a few months off.

Can't say I see you point at all. I had started making comics before I worried about finding a hosting site so having it on the front page makes sense to me. It is easy for new comers to get started, so if they are checking out various hosting sites it will seem like a blessing. Some other sites put me of because it was hard to find where to get started.

Approximately how close is this to going live? A month? A week? “Somewhere down the road…”?

Very soon. A week or two hopefully.
It would really, really help out if those people who were doing bete testing can look at more pages of the site and report problems they find!
-ALWAYS remember to say what browser you're using, what exactly the problem is and what page it happened on! Screenshots help a lot with that too.

I found some big ones myself just this afternoon. :(

The beta site hasn't been working for me for the past week. I assumed they had removed it.

It always redirects me here http://autosearch.centurylink.com/index.php?origURL=http%3A//www.beta/drunkduck.com/&r=

I was able to access it the 1st 4 days. I figured I missed my window of opportunity.

Using FireFox 3.6.8

Also tried on IE 8

That is odd. I can report that, but a quick question:

In that error message, it gives the url as beta/drunkduck, and it should be beta.drunkduck. Are you accessing it with the . and the report is just changing it to a /, or are you trying to access it with the / ?

While I'm eager for this new website layout to manifest itself, I hope this is the last server or site upgrade for a long while. There's just been way too many of these lately, and it's run off a lot of good comics and creators.

Because it was broken, oh so very broken.

I like the new look and usability of it, it actually looks like a site from this side of the 21st century now. I only hope all the bugs get ironed out soon.

it's running a little slow.

I haven't been everywhere yet. but that should be good.
———-

the forums themselves haven't changed.

I don't know if it was purposeful or not, but when on one comic, i can't access my favorites. there's no drop down, or clicky button thing.

i like the homepage.

and i forgot the other thing.

I'm having the same problem. Also comic pages aren't displaying which kinds brings down the whole experience.

Still, at least something has changed. I wonder if all the old bugs, like the top 1000 tropy bug and what-not, that never got fixed will get fixed during the update.

I know it needs some bug-out/extermination time, but right now I've seen faster moving sludge. Lots of time-outs, can't connects, etc.

Seems Google Chrome connects a little more easily than Firefox, but it's like trying to hussle a feeble 80-year old.

sorry, this should be in the moan and groan thread.

Wow, it's taken me from 8:58 to 9:11 to make it from the main page, to the forums, to this topic, and to the reply button. Then at 9:15 I accidentally clicked the window out, so it took me till 9:24 just to open the window back up again. What in the fuck did you do last night to make this the slowest webpage on the internet?

And to the beta testers, way to do your job. The forums look terrible. Lime green with orange, dark blue, grey, and white? What the hell were you guys thinking. Its like nobody has heard of Kuler before. Images still won't display right for me either. I can't see anybody's avatars, for example. Terrible. I don't care if this complaint is posted in the wrong thread, I'm pissy enough that it took half a goddamn hour to make one post, you guys can just deal with it here.

For the love of God, fix this.

There are kinks.

Lefarce- you have uniformly despised every iteration of the aesthetic appearance of Drunk Duck. I am reassured to see that nothing has changed.

Faves are still there but it takes more clicks to reach them. The amount of clicking it takes to get to some things was a point of contention for me.

There are no fixes for older problems at this stage.

The only problems I have is that the only part of the beta I see is the header at the top of the page ( everything else looks exactly the same as before), it's really slow and I get this error when I go to post: Warning: gzuncompress() : data error in /var/www/drunkduck/community/community_header.inc.php on line 69

Edit: I should mention I'm using the newest version of Firefox. The front page keeps switching between the new and old now too so I'm just going to come back in a day or two and report stuff then.

Poor featured comics. :( They seem to be getting less noticeable with each incarnation of the Duck. So tiny and tucked away now in the “ad zone” top of the page we've all been conditioned to ignore. I know I brought it up before (as did others, unaddressed) but it looks so much worse in practice.

Aside from that, it just all looks half done right now, so I'll hold off reporting bugs. In some places the right hand panel is the old model, in others the new. If I click “User Control” on the front page, I have no access whatsoever to editing my comics; while if I click “My Account” in the forum, I get the list of my comics and nothing else. I hope those are integrated.

I see no point in reporting bugs until the site appears to be “all together,” so I'll hold off on that along with any updating or comic reading. I do hope everything gets running this week.

This new load out of drunk duck is problematic.

I'm in college and it's taking 2minutes to load up a comic in general.
I would like to go back to what the load out was like before you
made the beta.It takes even longer to load on my Windows 7 gaming computer.
I have a bandwidth of 512kbps and the site is now taking too long to load.
My friend says that is a little too early put it in to the beta phase.
Its acting more along the lines of an alpha.

….so the forum works.

maybe they needed a couple more days with the site down to get this thing running? assuming that it's not, in fact actually running properly.

as someone that beta tested lefarce, the betasite worked fine. well, the parts that didn't just use the old sitecode, which was most of it. they also told us no to bother uploading comics there, which was probably something they should have had us try, really….

damn it all, i'm siding with lefarce. someone fix this, FAST.

Back and forth, to and fro, when the beta's done, nobody knows! :D

Or do they?
Do we have an ETA on when this is to be completed?

lose, it will be fine. You pretend to be Zen. You adopt detachment, and
ironic humor, while secretly praying for a miracle.”

Nice idea. Pity it doesn't work. Well, for me anyway. It takes four to five minutes for any comic page to load (Firefox 3.6.12 - broadband up to 80MBit/s). Only the forum pages take less (about two minutes), otherwise I don't think I would have bothered writing this.
Something definitely needs to be fixed here. Until it is, I think I will have to skip my daily dose of DrunkDuck.
