Just like down here in the American south, there were even some black soldiers who enlisted in the Confederate Army,

Noooooo, not like that at all, haha! Because back then there were no Nazis. Those soldiers were Jewish, but also ordinary Germans. There was nothing unusual about them being in the army, being hussars or wearing the uniform with the totenkopf on their busby, unlike black soldiers fighting for the confederates, these men were not fighting against their own interests, they were just normal Prussian men, doing what other Prussians did.

The rising of the Nazis and their theft of the insignia decades later recontextualises their their existence but it doesn't change their motivation. :)

I see where the misunderstanding was though, you thought I was talking about them being Lieb Hussars during the 30s and 40s. No, I was talking about WW1 and before. My fault for not being more clear.

Happy Easter!

I have a great update from my personal end of things. Actually there are quite a few updates and I feel like my journey in finding my biological family is going almost as close to a fairy tale as the real world would allow.

1. Despite predictions to the contrary, I received an email from my biological mother on my birthday (March 21st) and I got to meet her on the 29th. We are still sounding each other out a bit on how involved we would like to be in each other's lives, but both she and her husband (not my bio dad) have stated that they would love to count my boys as their grandkids and get get to know them. She did not tell me about my biological dad, but stated that she was going to continue to honor the closed adoption agreement and wouldn't offer information about him.

2. I had met a cousin through DNA testing almost a decade ago. We have been friends on Facebook this entire time, but without knowing if I was related through my mom or dad's side, we didn't have much to go on. She knew of cousins that lived in my area at the right time, but couldn't figure it out. Once I announced I met my mom on Facebook, she started asking around again. A cousin that she had already ruled out fessed up when she was asking him about his brother's activity around my birth. So I got in touch with my biological father last week and met him yesterday. He also stated that he wants to get to know me and his grandsons. However, I am pumping the breaks on him just a little bit. He got his family started much later in life, and my half sister is just 4 years older than my first son.

3. I have been invited to the annual ladies weekend that my biological mom and her sisters have with their daughters. My aunt also made sure that the invitation extended to my mom, so we are both making plans on going.

So, yeah. Busy over here in Niccea Land.

That is so wonderful. Great how your family is all coming together like that.

Wow, I'm certainly glad that everything has worked out so excellently for you in terms of reconnecting with your biological family, even if you are, as you say, taking things a little slowly with your biological father and his own family. That's understandable though. All of my siblings (from either of my parents) are all much older than I am, so I have nieces and nephews who really aren't that much younger than I am . . . then again, both of my parents are old enough to be my grandparents, and have been mistaken as such on far more than one occasion.

It's nice to hear how receptive everyone has been so far, although I can imagine there must have been some initial awkwardness for all parties involved that you were able to overcome. Still really happy to hear about the end results for you.

In 2025 how is it possible to google song lyrics and not get any good results? 😭 WTF?

I do not like emo metal at all ever but somehow an odd emo metal song found its way into my regular playlist a few years ago (I do NOT know how), and played enough that I like it now.

I have tried and tried to find out more about it and the band but searches ALWAYS fail 😭

So I am asking for help please 🙏
Does anyone know the song with these lyrics in the chorus:

“Make your stand rise of fall
Don't ever give up on a life worth fighting for
Take your place above it all
cuz it's the moment that you show them this means war”

It's a very epic sound ☺️

The only clue I have is the track name:
“Rise-or-FallRough-Mix”
It's a dead end. Google is no help but suspects it's Christian rock 😅

Nope, I didn't think of that… I don't use it. I will try and work it out this afternoon.

If I could just apply the experience I've had with Interstellar Battle Girls League of Super Warriors and doing a seemingly endless long form comic I could finish Sword of Kings.

It's never been completely forgotten. Most everything is packed away and in fact most of the minor character figures lie in storage completely untouched. If I manage to learn 3D modeling it would probably be one of the ultimate goals. There are so many possibilities.

@Ozoneocean - I don't know the text. And I tried googling it myself and just found out some other person on reddit also were looking for it and couldn't google-hunt it down either.

I've gone on crazy songs-i've-heard-and-liked-but-can't-remember-the-artist-of-hunts like these myself. Like it was by cheer coincident, over twitter like four or five years ago or so, a friend of mine who had been looking for this old rap song that gotten stuck in our heads found it for me. “Let me clear my throat” it's called by DJ Kool

LOL! That was me hahaha!

OK, because this song is impossible to find so far I suspect a couple of things:

  • It could be an unreleased song I happened to download by accident from somewhere back in the early days of music downloading when we all did that because iTunes, spottify and the rest did not exist.

  • It could be the end credits musical theme to some cartoon or movie that wasn't very popular so no one cares about the music.

  • Maybe it's unreleased music FOR a move or TV show theme? Someone produced a song for a project that never happened, or it just wasn't used for the movie or TY show so it's forever orphaned… owned by a media production company but not needed so no one ever gets to hear it :(

I should upload it to Youtube and see of I get a copyright strike,. THAT will tell me more about it :)

No live Quackcast stuff XD

It was pretty cool to participate the couple times they invited me on. I know schedules are hard so that's why there aren't a whole lot of guests. You figure it's across three continents. (North America for Banes, Europe for Tantz and Australia for Ozoneocean) Amazing how they do it every week.

It's not this one either, is it?

The lyrics are of course quite a bit different, except for “take a stand, rise or fall”, but I thought if what you heard was an early rough mix or something it may have been a WIP with final lyrics yet to added later. The basic message seems to go into the same direction.

Btw. seconded! Getting these Quackcasts out every week is amazing!

Quail's Random and the Latest Updates thumbnails on the front page have been full of treasures last few nights.

Just wish some of the comics in Quail's Random were still updating and not frozen in time.

Would be an interesting project to pick a comic that hasn't updated in a looooooong time and just continue it as a tribute to the original creator and what could have been.
Could be a possible future community project that people pick an unfinished comic (and if possible contact the original creator) and finish it for them.
Could even have creators offer up a project they know they'll never get to for others to finish.
Just an idea of a community project.

That has happened to me more times than I can even count: I'll discover a comic in Quail's Random that looks interesting/appealing, it turns out it is, I'll get to reading it, then come to realize that it was either discontinued or abandoned, and was actually published on this site during a whole other era, with the chances of it continuing being infinitely small.
