I am taking a break from the regularly scheduled Panel By Panel this week to share some news about a project I am putting together, and I am inviting you all to participate. While not affiliated with The Duck, I hope to involve as many of you as possible in the project. I was delighted to see Ozoneocean's recent post on zines, which motivated me to write about my zine project here.

For those who don't know me outside of The Duck, I am a regular podcaster and one of the three hosts of the weird history podcast Supernatural Selection. We hit some milestones recently and are now pushing into other projects, such as a yearly zine. So, for 2024, we're launching a zine all about cryptids! At the top, we should direct your attention to the webpage with every detail you need.

We cover cryptids on the podcast, and along with monsters, they make for some of my favorite subjects. It made sense to make them the subject of the first zine project. For this project, consider a cryptid a mysterious or legendary creature that has been sighted or is rumored to still exist. This Wikipedia entry is a great starting point for that sort of thing. Draw a picture of a bigfoot or write a story about the Mothman, but try to save the aliens for a future zine.

Our zine concept is pretty simple; we will accept art and writing submissions from January to June 2024 and then edit them into a free zine distributed on the website and a small print run for contributors. We're looking for art and writing and have our submission details written out for you on the site.

My fellow hosts agreed with me that anyone who participates can download, print, and redistribute the zine, including selling it at conventions. So, if you want to add another book to your table at future conventions, you can download, print, bind, and sell the zine for your purposes. Of course, you also maintain the rights to your art. We do not claim anything submitted; we want to distribute a free zine of weird monsters.

So, please consider this a formal invitation to everyone here at The Duck. You're a fantastic bunch of talent, and we'd be delighted to have your monstrous visions included in this weird little book.

And if you have the time, why not check out the podcast? Thanks for your time, we'll be back with Panel By Panel next time.

This sounds great, and with that deadline I'm sure I can put something decent together. It's about time I drew some crazy critters again.
