Fats and protein are mainly what cats need.
Wich is why they like peanutbutter, fried chicken, cake, milk, etc…
Celulose is indigestable plant fibe- could come from wheat, anything. But It's not a bad filler…
Certainly better than that fake protein enhancing melamine the Chinese poisoned their catfood with a few years ago.

My cat LOVES to eat up rats from top to tail… although he'll often leave the stomach or a neatly snapped off nosecone- always standing like a witche's hat.

Yeah, anything is better than melamine though…really I prefer a cat food with no filler at all. Ah well. I get holistic foods for free and the kitties like it so I'm not going to trade up for her stupid dental food that my cat won't eat anyhoo. I think it's time to switch vets, though.
Also, rats(as long as they're not diseased) are probably the best thing for a cat to eat, really! Which is probably why my cats spend hours watching poor little Ringo in his cage.

ayesinback
I can very much relate to your experience, both in regard to cats and to kids. But so far in my dealings, no vet has been as blatant in support of his/her suppliers as to what I've encountered with pediatricians supporting pharmaceuticals, whether it's cough syrup, vitamins, or vaccinations.

Particularly in the area of nutrition, where there is incredible knowledge about what vitamins and minerals, in combination and proportion, can do for the human body, it amazes me that the US docs I've run into seem ignorant about this area. Generally they are Very condescending, feel put upon to provide explanation, and seem insulted if you don't hop to and follow blindly.

I was actually just talking about this with my dad, who teaches some pharmaceutical courses. Apparently it's gotten to be quite a problem determining whether some pharmaceutical testing is really valid. A doctor gets paid 100,000 dollars by a company to determine the effectiveness of their drug - of course they're going to lean towards the person who's paying them!
And yes, I find a lot of these people to be very condescending. I mean, I'm sure a doctor knows a heck of a lot more than me, but the attitude is really unnecessary. They're basically acting as a teacher for you, and if teachers were like that all the time school would suck.

The worst time was when I waited for months and months to see a metabolic specialist. When I finally got into my appointment, she walked in and before I had even opened my mouth, said something along the lines of “You don't have a metabolic disorder.” And then she treated me like a total retard when I told her that I had noticed most of my attacks had been on days when I had had more sugar than usual. Then sent me for a bunch of tests anyways. Urgh.
Don't get me wrong, I love socialized medicine, but I'd like to see a system where the doctor getting paid depends on patient satisfaction.

I just got into a bit of a row with my vet, lol.

My cat Annie will only eat wet food so I went to get her teeth checked. If she’s just fussy that’s fine but if she won’t eat dry because her teeth are bugging her that’s no good.

First the vet tells me that a lot of people think now that cats should only eat wet and no dry whatsoever anyways. So I was like well that’s good, I’m just a bit worried that her teeth will get bad if she’s only eating wet food.

So she gave me a sample of Royal Canin(who I’m 100% positive pay my vet to promote their food) Dental food to try. I was like, what? I just told you my cat won’t eat dry food!

From my understanding, vets don't normally do very much on the topic of pet nutrition because there's so much else they have to learn. Often the nutrition stuff is covered in a couple lectures or a seminar (sometimes run by pet food people).

Wet food is good for cats beacuse it's more purely what they can digest, and it ups their moisture intake. Just brush your cat's teeth. There's also things like dried seaweed powders and stuff which you can sprinkle on wet food to help keep their teeth clean. Many cats don't chew kibble at all, their teeth are wrong for it. how does that help keep them clean? Or if they do chew it, pulverized food can build up in gunky patches.

Yeah, that's what I've heard too. I just don't know who the heck else you talk to about pet nutrition. With so many pets, the feeding gets complicated.

I think I'm just going to get some of the stuff that you put in their water…knowing my Annie, if I got the powder she'd probably refuse to eat her food. I might try the toothpaste, but she'll probably end up biting me. She's a sweet cat but she does bite when you freak her out.

Today I have officially completed my 250th page of comics :D

I aim to double that before the end of the year!

also, pet nutrition? I know nothing of that… BUT I remember my aunt had a dog that DEMANDED to eat the same thing everyone had for the dinner and refused to touch food if it was any different. So if we had tomato soup and the dog was given chicken? it did not want to touch the chicken and just sat there on the ground, staring at us and making hiccup sounds. So we gave it some bread. The dog took the bread, took it outside and left it for the chickens there and returned to wait for a bowl of soup, heh.

Sounds like a pretty spoiled dog. :] He learned that holding out gets good rewards… dogs won't starve themselves to death, but cats will.

Cat nutrition is a bit tricker than dogs, but yeah. Pet nutrition is still a pretty young field. I'm lucky in that my vet was quite happy to let me start feeding my dog raw meats and stuff. Dog's much healthier and happier. If only it were so easy for cats.

This afternoon at work I couldn't want to get home and start drawing. But now that I'm home and it's cold and dark (my boiler is half-broken) I just want to take a bath and play video games. >:[ skoolmunkee, you can't get any drawing done that way

As recently as Saturday, my area had temperatures peak around 70F/ 21C. By tonight and through tomorrow afternoon, they've begun dropping to around 9F/-12C. That'd be a minor annoyance, except I have low-income dentistry and have been waiting a month and a half for an appointment… scheduled for tomorrow. And my primary mode of transportation is by bicycle. Harumph. I was supposed ta start my new graphic novella project today, but spent most of my time figuring out how to weasel around the incoming storm.

I dun' mind the cold, or the low-income healthcare… but when it starts interfering with drawing time, that's another matter entirely…

Aurora Borealis- Awesome on the 250 mark! Productivity can be a sweet, sweet drug.

Many people have forgotten they lost most of their 1st amendment right when they enlisted/commissioned. and when it's pointed out to them, they go even more crazy.

Downside today: braving -20 F windhcills and blizzard conditions with half a block visibility to go to a dentist appointment. Upside: totally rad beardcicles. I'd say it's an overall win.

Sweet dingleberry jesus it is freezing here. Freaking arizona… it was perfect weather not even a day ago.

My desk space is covered in ‘pokeman pieces of cardboard’. I wanted to buy some card collecting supplies to store them but the shipping for them was 13$ -_- 13 freaking dollars! Instead of that I could buy…the pokeman pieces of cardboard.

Sleeves are so stupidly overpriced, and binder pages for cards are even more expensive. When I was young some people would trade sleeves for cards, not sure if that'll work though.

Yes, that happens.

Mostly these days I work in an office doing graphic design. Its good, it's steady, it's easy, paid holidays and sick leave are a joy, the commute is fast, cheap and trouble free, my fellow workmates and boss are all nice friendly people, I never work long hours go home late or take my work home with me, the equipment I work with is all new and decent quality (bought to my own specs), I got to take my holidays when I wanted to and got the raise I asked for…

But the air-conditioning is always waaaaay too chilly in summer >_<

It's good to have something to complain about :)

(more like George than Kramer these days)

It didn't snow. It's raining now and I was just outside to spread out the ice melt and the ice is overrated. Keep the sand coming and everything will be fine. Just so long as I don't have to shovel anything.

Here's one for the record. I use a “grainhog” shovel for the snow. It's lasted 16 years better than any snow shovel I ever had. It's the same kind of shovel you'd use to shovel shit. I used to spend a lot of time BSing in my academic days. I got that bigger shovel. There was an old Robert Kline routine that he got a B on an essay and the professor wrote “Get a bigger shovel next time” across the bottom.

Can't dazzle them with brilliance; baffle them with bullshit. The motto of any and all debate and discussion forums.

So I got another snow day today but all that's happened is ice cold rain.

School has been closed for two days now because of the ice that hasn't melted. The temperature still hasn't risen above freezing. Now I'm waiting for word that they will cancel school tomorrow. The other university in the city is closing up. Besides, there have been intentional power outages for about a quarter of an hour at a time to relieve the generators and prevent rolling blackouts. This is so interesting to me because we haven't had a good snow like this since I was in middle school. But it wasn't that bad then. School was only closed for 2 and half days back then. But the temperature is so cold, it is actually cheaper to close the school than to waste money on heat.

I forced fiance to stay home from work yesterday, and it seems that it was a good thing I did. It takes him an hour to drive on a good day. He starts work at 1:30pm. His work closed at 3pm yesterday. So he really didn't miss much and I got to corrupt my poor working man with a do nothing day.

We Texans really don't know how to cope with all this. I'm just glad I had my parents bring my ski jacket and snow boots last week. I guess I saw this coming before the weathermen did.'

-edit- Just go a text from my school's alert system. I won't have to go to class tomorrow. I've been having a lot of lazy days. However I'm worried. When fiance and I went to the store on Friday we only got some TV dinners because I was going to be eating alone this week and get lunch at school. We didn't get anything for emergency meals…I might have to send fiance to the store tomorrow…

Thank you. My only regret is that I didn't know/think of webcomics years earlier, when I was actually getting paid for going to school. I'd have enough time to work on stuff and a large pile of finished pages by now. These days I have to partition time between work and comics and either one wins or the other. Currently comics are winning but pretty soon I expect work to win cause I'll be in need of money.

(having said that, I've had a heavy marathon and colored 9 pages in 2 days… only a 6 page comic left to go, this one shall be done tomorrow).

@ Niccea: It's supposed to ice over on Thursday if it rains. T_T I gotta work that night.

@ Everybody: If You love this site, the freedom of speech, and are a US citizen go here! Basically, the free net neutral web that we know is in serious trouble and will probably go the way of the dinosaur if we don't do something.

When I start whistling she does these little whiny meows, then she gets off my lap and paces around my desk, then comes back and meows again.
