I miss cadbury easter chocolate. It's the best, especially the mini eggs. @__________@

And has anyone ever wanted to deviate from the art world and comic world out of sheer frustration only to realize that no matter where they go, they run into constant and rather blatant reminders of why they should do comics?

As if it's on some “Spiderman No More” type shit?

THAT's what's driving me crazy right now. Not knowing what's real right now, whether or not I should become a mailman and give up the dream.
I had those moments about once a week for almost five years. I've finally given up on giving up.

Mainstream culture's views on relationships annoy me. Most of my mom's friends when I was a young kid were in the LGBT and feminist communities, so I grew up with those kinds of alternative norms.

My world makes so much more sense >.>

(According to Ozone it was stupid and I agree)

But today I had the best day I've had in months. But at the beginning of the week it was some of the worst so I guess it just decided to balance itself off now…

Fun Fact: After watching the movie The Boy in The Striped Pajamas, I found myself bored so I started listening to my ZUNE. And the first song that comes up when I click the play all button is called “Died a Jew” by Say Anything.

It was pretty golden for me.

I mean I had already been laughing at my thought of saying “This little Nazi had it coming” so that didn't help when I started cracking up while people still wiped their eyes.

Just remember folks:
“Jews are all cute and stuff.” (such a stupid bitch, she is)

Ugh… was supposed to sleep hours ago. But today that Metformin I took is really hitting me hard. If I go to sleep now, things will happen… BAD things… and I'll just leave it at that for now.

I don't think even a couple hundred gallons of coffee is gonna help me tonight, and I'm not taking any of those weird stimulants or “energy drinks” the stores sell. I've heard the crash you get afterwards is pretty bad.

Maybe if I put a rock in my shoe the pain or discomfort will keep me awake tonight…

I guess I'll go play some Sims 3 now. Building weird houses in the game is always fun. :)

Still, I can't wait for my holiday in the sates again.

Yup. I've entered yer name into the draft for mandatory feminist mind cleaning, mr. 1337.

Ah- so that's how they're putting downward pressure on Comic Con ticket sales. I miss that place, but it was so crazy that I haven't been in a few years. Tee hee. The first year I went, I ended up rooming with a group of slash fiction writers. So there was me, an effeminate male cartoonist in his early 20's, with a group of 15 or so women between 30 and 55 years old whose major common interest was writing gay fan fiction. Of course, I can't complain too much since I roomed with them my second year too XD

—————–
It doesn't seem like I got very much done yesterday. I think I'm switching to a more standard thrice-weekly update schedule for my second project, meaning I have the first five weeks worth finished and the full run for the first story would take about 15 weeks instead of 6. That really removes some of the pressure so I was social most of the day instead. The only thing I did was get a poll up for the content of FAIL's second book. Two votes so far :3

For me, “nice” and “sunny” don't really go together that well right now.
—————-

I've just realised something about my job:
I basically just fell into graphic design a few years ago. I had no direct training in the field, my schooling was in primarily in fine arts and some multimedia and interactive design… only tangentially related. BUT, I'm good with comps and picked it up as I went along.

For a lot of the time I thought my route was rather unique and that most people who do graphic design must have actually learned it at some point.

Turns out I was wrong. It's pretty rare that I've encountered another graphic designer in the course of my job that actually knows what they're doing (-ie atLEAST knows as much as I do). It's so rare in fact that I'm disproportionately overjoyed when I actually do.

The flipside is dealing with corporate guidelines for logo usage that some big graphic design firm has put together for BP or some multibillion dollar mining company or bank. They pay hundreds of thousands of dollars and these firms make them a slightly changed version of the logo they already had along with a 20 page booklet detailing every aspect of the logo's usage, just to justify the massive price tag.
What these companies don't realise is that they're being conned- those booklets are all produced to a template and they're mostly fricken useless. You only need a single page of info to tell people how to use your logo, the rest is worthless snot to impress the stupid client and confuse the crap out the the graphic artists unlucky enough to have to consult them.

Shut up you two. Not every joke hits.

Mainly those jokes being mine.

So I managed to piss off yet another person in my life.

She's been bugging me for weeks to take her to her prom and I've constantly told her that I don't want to go, let along with her because she pulled this “be my last resort” thing on me last year and almost had me go because she broke up with her boyfriend the day before it.

So jokingly the other day I quoted “I'll bite your legs off!” and told her that if she could find out the quote I'd go.

She found it out and expected me to follow through.

Like hell.

So no. I am not going. And yes. She is quite pissed with me right now.

But I don't really give that much of a damn and don't think I should have to.

I'm sick of doing things for others that make me feel worse and them better. I'm an asshole and I think you people need to realize that in my life I come first.

Heh heh…come…

Oh god i'm so lucky it's ridiculous sometimes. I won these in an auction:

And paid 26$ inc shipping. The lion doll is worth 80 fucking dollars. And that's what people have actually paid for it, sometimes up to 100$.

I mean I'm never going to sell it but I still can't believe my luck.

The amusing part is that my mother was a part of the local version of the feminist separatist movement. Y'know, the movement that kinda inspired almost every feminazi stereotype you've ever heard.

Omg. I managed to get my hands on a bottle of sarsaparilla. I used to date a girl whose parents owned a home brewing store, so they introduced me to it. Sweet action. It's not as good as the home brew they made, but it'll do.

Heh… having way too much fun with Resident Evil's Mine Thrower weapon. Think of it as a gun that shoots grenades exactly where you want to put them. That merchant wasn't kidding when he says that you need guts as well as money to buy that weapon. Shot a crow with one of its darts and if flew straight at me. At least it was very useful at the canyon stage. Too bad I don't get enough darts to take everything out. Now if only I had that weapon in real life…

Or maybe not. I never know when I might fire that thing absentmindedly… O_O

So I saw a photo of The Comics Journal #301. A 624 page book of interviews and articles on comics and I thought “holy shit, I want to publish a book this thick, except with comics”. And then I realized that in a way I can!

First, Ka-blam offers paperback printing up to 760 pages.
Second, I have this project that I've been trying to hopelessly rewrite to fit a specific set of volumes… a project which runs nearly 500 pages.
Third, the only actual rewrites I need for this one are some pacing changes and additional panels here and there to smooth out some scenes, which would most likely expand it up to 500-550 pages at most!
Fourth, it's meant to be b/w so the printing cost won't be too high!
Aaand fifth, I can make it not only thick BUT also MAGAZINE SIZED :D

A 8x10.5x1.2 inch (if at 540 pages, heh) brick :D

The big question I'm asking myself is… should I?

The World According to Garp?
It's been forever since I've seen the movie(and haven't read the book), but from what I remember: kinda, yeah. When I was a kid, pretty much every adult in my life outside of school was gay or a lesbian (and more of the latter than the former). My mother was on the moderate side of things, but I was still raised to be as gender neutral as possible- and with the assumption that everyone was inhntly bisexual. I had a cute moment with my mom where I had to sit down with her and say “mom… I know you might disappointed… but I think I'm straight…”

The best part is that the pricing on those books has the binding cost, then the cost per page. So a 500 page book (1 binding, 500 pages) is cheaper than five different 100 page books (5 bindings, 500 pages). I don't know if the market has a preference, but if I can offer a better product (more content) at a lower cost- shoot, that's the direction I'd go. As an example, black and white manga sized: 100 pages cost $4.07 per book, 200 pages cost $5.19 per book, 300 pages cost $6.31, 400 pages $7.43, 500 pages $8.55.

Result: one book, 500 pages long: $8.55 in printing. Five books, 100 pages each at $4.07 per book: $20.35 in printing. The brick also means shipping fewer items (though that might be a wash depending on extra weight per shipped item). But it also means that instead of worrying about having 5 books in stock, you only have to worry about keeping up with one- which makes it easier to take advantage of any bulk printing discounts.

Actually, I've been wavering- right now my plan is to publish just one massive brick with all of my projects (as in, I could sell you a book with FAIL for $8, or, for an extra $2 you could get twice as much material; my target page count for the first volume of collected works is similar to what yer lookin' at with your brick). But with my luck, that probably means the market would counterintuitively prefer smaller books of individual projects :p

There's probably room for a discussion worth it's own thread in there somewhere ._.

argh… time to pour vinegar down the coffee maker again. Jeez… the thing keeps getting clogged thanks to the water around here. And there's no way I'm going outside. That big ball of fire up in that huge field with the floating puffy things keeps trying to cook me. O_O

Don't forget to tack on some profit onto that :D

The way I see it, 500+ page magazine sized book would be ok for 30$.
But yeah, five hundred pages? That's possibly a year or more of work. Plus having to figure out the page dimensions all over again. Also, the project still needs tons of visual research. It's meant to be medieval/goth/vk/baroque/victorian/art nouveau inspired thing, so that means lots of decorative shit and most likely heavy crosshatching and detailing, heh.

But if I don't do that one, I'll dive into my ongoing one, which will mean no standalone books for at least couple of years. (this one though would be drawn in a cleaner, cartoonier and slightly manga influenced way).

Eh, I'll ponder this for a bit longer :D
