Did I ever tell you guys about the Vietnam era Aussie battledress shirt I found in the back of one of my wardrobes one day?
Still no idea how it got there, it's in perfect condition too apart from some fraying around the label. It's from 1966. It's not my dad's, because he didn't save his stuff from then and it's too small for him anyway. I can only imagine that I must have got it with a bunch of op-shop stuff one day without even seeing it and just hung it in there without thinking.

I only bring it up now because I'm having my first cool night in months so I've put the shirt on for warmth and it looks great- very late 1960s hippie ^__^

-no rank markings or anything on it, just plain drab olive green stiff material.

diet progress… my waist today was down to 87cm. Slow but steady. The goal is around 75cm or lower. Although anything below 80 will be satisfying

- - - - -

I have pondered on the “brick of comics” and decided to start doing something in that direction. Right now I'm rereading the script and noting down all the things I need to research, design or find visual reference for.

Then I'll be googling, googling, googling, flipping through books, screencapping movies (not for tracing of course) and sketching, designing, planning.

Meanwhile, the b/w short comics collection I'm working on? I'm getting the urge to color that. I'll see how I feel about it once all 52 pages are completed.

I haven't been that skinny in 20 years, I don't think it is possible for me to get as slim as you aim for, I've always been built like a brick shithouse.

I haven't checked my weight or wist since i began my diet but it's going well. AS in I'm sticking to it, so far.

I just spent three days over my guitarist's house with my drummer too, writing songs.

We wrote two. One being mine and the other being my drummer's.

We have a Facebook page but I don't really want to go get the link because I don't use Facebook but my guitarist and drummer do.

But this is my angry part of the story.

The song I wrote, called Soothe (Yourself), took us about three hours to make. Then my sister (our bassist and drummer's girlfriend) came over the next day and she looked at my lyrics, took them to the side, and practically rewrote the song.

Not even practically. She did.

I got a little annoyed.

But good luck-the girl I pissed off calmed down. Yay…

Well, it appears my tablet pen is dying :(

It's still working, but the nib is so worn out at this point that I have to hold it vertical to get it to draw a line. Which means I pretty much either loose all control over the line (and it took me YEARS to get decent at tablet drawing) or I have to grip it so hard that after half hour I start getting sore spots and blisters.

But it appears thta despite Wacom never offering spare nibs for Volito2 tablets (and them being discontinued and not offering any replacement pens either), you can actually pull out the nib and replace it. At least that's what web tells me. And it's the same standard of nibs used in all Wacom tablets.

So it looks like I'll be pencilling only for the next few weeks until I can scrape some pocket change to order some nibs, heh.

Still, over 400 drawings (either inked or colored or both and ranging from a single illustration to a comic book page) over the course of about 5 years? Taht's a not that bad result for a tiny piece of plastic :D

-You can get individual nobs from Ebay at $10 US and $2.50 US shipping. HIGHLY overpriced, but convenient and they take ages to wear out anyway,

Yup, in my experience, any Wacom nib works with any pen…
But any pen doesn't work with any tablet >_<

I recall that when the nib on my big fave 12x12 Intuos was dying and I couldn't find the big bunch of replacements that originally came with it… I was wary of going through the hassle of ordering more from… where?
Anyway, I'd just started teaching digital animation at the time and the students used Wacom tablets. Teachers were allowed to take them home, so I took one home, took out its nice new long nib and replaced it with my worn out short one :)

That nib lasted me ages! But next time I needed a new one I just bought replacements online. It wasn't so hard in the end. The only trouble is that they last so long (years) that by the time you need to change them, you have no idea what happened to the replacements! This time i've stuck them inside my desk drawer with tape.
My Cintiq goes through its nib even slower though because there's even less wear on the surface.

WOW! I have actually FINISHED another page of Pinky TA! You better believe I'll mention that in the Quackcast baby! I'll load it up to go live on Wednesday, which is my traditional update day.
What an amazing page! Such detail, such artistic perfection! God, it's awesome, I even had to look up extra reference to draw a jezail. …and a donkey.

Well, I found a guy who sells them online “locally” (meaning my country) for 20$ + shipping for a set.

I'll just put them either with automatic pencil leads or with spare pc screws or with hd/cd/dvd jumpers :D

I love longlasting supplies :D

There's a stack of 1500 sheets of printer paper sitting on my shelf, hahaha.

Anwyay, I need to scrape some money first. Off to see what I don't need anymore and can sell online.

And I guess i'll be pencilling only for the next couple of weeks.

And congrats on the new page!

Was the hooker messy then?

very, i mean, when i chopped off her arms, i asked her not to bleed everywhere, but she started screaming, and i lost control of the car, and ended up doing donuts until i was 100 feet out in a cornfield and couldn't do donuts no more.

then people tried to push me out, but that just shredded my cv joint boot. they should have tried to pull me out from the beginning.

Well… after seeing that pic Ozone drew, I think I'll post the link to this video…

Youtube Video: Giraffes in the Air

A minute in, for a few seconds… the song will actually make sense since it isn't actually about giraffes in the air… :)

I wouldn't mind seeing Ozone draw a special pic of Pinky TA as a tribue to Duke Nukem's return… Y'know… a pic of her dressed in Duke's attire standing on a pile of very dead enemies (or her mech) armed with her trademark weapon.
*had to edit since I keep forgetting that forum admins of Drunkduck aren't like other forum admins… they actually read comments rather than having a room full of monkeys do it for them*

Well, in a little under a day and a half, the Discovery will touch down for the last time. It will also mark the last time Robert McCall's patches will soar the starry skies.

The man not only designed this patch, but the first mission patch for the shuttle program and the last Apollo mission patch. He died late last month.

I could just copy something I wrote on another forum, but I think a link will do.

“All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.”

My week could get worse. But im only saying that because if I say it couldn't then it'll most likely get worse. Last week was pretty bad.
My fish died. Not really a big deal but my dog died as well today.
Ive got a mystery ailment that I'm not telling anyone about but its been causing depression, lack of sleep and fatigue. Also itching.

Shiny new comic.

Patch stuff
Not bad. :)
I do stuff like that for a living so I have a massive insight into the merits of that badge. The big limitation there is the amount of detail and the amount of different colours… Colours are mainly a cost issue though and I doubt they ever worry about that at NASA!
The shuttle could have done with more simplification.

Apart from that it strikes a great balance between looking fantastic and being functional!
The wording is at a good size and thickness for retaining clarity and legibility after embroidery, the colours look great, and the shapes make good use of the circle format.

News flash: I live in Iceland, and it's snowing…. a good 5cm (about two inches) in the capitol, which means that this is the snowiest day of this season. How it made me chuckle when all the city folks were trying to heat their cars and scrape (didn't even know that was the appropriate word, but it does the work) the snow off..

In other, unrelated news… went bowling for the first time last night and it was fun, albeit my delicious score of 27… but instead I beat my buddies at pool ^^
aaaaaand my 50% groupwork assignment is due in two days… frack me, better herd the cats that make up my group -.-*

Yesterday was depressing.

The inability to further ink the already started comic has gotten to me so badly, that I didn't drew anything for an entire day. Result? First day this year that I didn't progress on my comics.
So I decided to invent something else and came up with “Weekend Automata”, which is meant to be short comics based on automatic drawing/writing. No plot, no script, just a piece of paper, a pencil and a gelpen to ink it.
It's meant to kill two birds with one stone for I attempt to post these at my site (my blog badly needs regular updates).

Meanwhile I'm rereading the script for the big vampire project and making notes on necessary visual research.

My day was kinda similar, in that instead working on comics or drawing I spent most of the time writing copy for a marketing campaign and using previously made drawings for the graphic elements. Saying “I penciled 10 pages today” feels so much better than “I wrote ten drafts of this. Only one of them will ever be used.” I think my favorite line is still from last year's marketinging campaign: “family friendly enough to be safe, pagan enough to be fun.”

——————————-
It looks like my best friend and his girlfriend are hanging out again. Which is doubly good because I'm scheduled to hang out with her this evening, and the fact that she has a source for physical comfort dramatically decreases a conflict of interests for me. I was worried enough about it that I sat down and chatted with him last night, which was a little bit awkward but not too bad. Basically it boiled down to him saying that he trusted me- in that if anything happened, I'd have her best interests in mind as much as he would. Of course, considering recent improvements, it's probably a non-issue.

The amount of trust that people put in my discretion is phenomenal some times. I dunno what's in *anybody's* best interest, I just have a tendency to try to make every situation a little more constuctive. I guess that's close enough ._.

———————————
I posted my first filler today. I'm not the happiest with it, but the news item was already pretty stale so it was use-it-or-lose-it time.

I wish I could pencil ten pages. I managed to do that just once, two days in a row, and since then I can't get close to it. But then again it was right after getting fired from the very annoying job and being able to draw for the first time in ages, so obviously I took the time to go crazy and just drew, drew, drew…

I just decided that this long thing will be the visually most grand thing I drew so far (with no panels ever dropping below the level of illustrations I did for Inkbook… although possibly cartoony faces will slip in there anyway) so I want to design the visual as well as I can.

I wonder if it'd be feasible to do that and a simplier project at the same time? A page of this, a page of that. Hmm…

No seriously. I've slept through my alarm twice this week and predict I will tomorrow too.

And very “sad” too but when aren't I?

Just wish I could make my life easy or make myself stop bitching about it.

You'll always bitch, no matter how good life gets. and i'm not picking on you, i do it too, and everyone i know does it.

It's also something i'm trying to change.
——-

I'm starting that caveman diet tomorrow, and i just took some “before” photo's. although they're not exactly fair. I'm a healthily active 25 year old male, not quite athletic, but i get out a lot more than most people i know. I've never been skinny, (or toned in the abdomen region) but i wasn't fat 2 weeks ago. I've been on vacation from exercise (and work) and pretty much my meals have been fast food and bread. so right now, i'm larger than i would be normally.
so what i'm saying is the “before” pictures don't represent the normal me, and if the diet works for me like it did for my buddy, there will be a large difference in photo's.

Kinda like what diet pill commercials do to show they “work”
