Mostly I stay for the community rather than the site's hosting reliability, which is weird.
I haven't actually used DD for hosting comics since 2008… it is kinda weird that I stay. Oh well those 20-30% of the posts in the rant thread aren't going to make themselves~~:O

This mom and her kid came into the thrift shop today. I found out the kids name is Olivia which is my name too, so i tell the mom about it. Then she's quickly like ‘No, no! It’s AH-livia. Spelled Aliviah. It's totally different.“ And I'm desperately trying to keep my face from cracking up.

She's then like ”Hmm…I guess it's not that different, huh?". Well lady I wasn't named by one of those new age hippie moms who think crazy spellings like ashliegh and fayt are ‘radical’ so I guess they are totally different.

Now I'm trying to understand canine behavior. Last week a dog was hit by a car on the pelvis. I didn't see him get hit, but I heard screeching tires and a loud noise before I saw him limp into my line of sight. He apparently wasn't hurt too bad. Other than limping a bit it was running around. On my way to work I find it… well…

One of the tenants living in the condo I'm watching told me it was hit while snapping at the wheels of a passing car when it got hit. You'd think it'd avoid cars after being hit by one. Either dogs aren't as smart as I've been led to believe, or their insticts are so strong that experience is sidelined just to satisfy them. In any case, that was one dog I didn't need to see in that state…

Okay… I tried boiling this flounder trying to make some soup. No chunks of it left. Just muscle fibers. I'll eventually figure out what I'm doing wrong… Now I'm starting to wonder what would happen if you're cooking the thanksgiving turkey, but when you pull the bird out it turns into sludge at the slightest touch… -_-

Found myself watching Youtube videos about “knockoff” video game consoles. Especially the “Vii”, a ripoff of the Wii. That thing has almost nothing inside. And a metal weight at the bottom that makes it feel heavier than it actually is…

So what would happen if a new “free” webcomic site came up called “Inebriated Water Fowl” sporting a green mallard as its mascot drinking a bottle of Tsingtao Beer and it was only available to certain countries? And it had a forum overseen by two admins… the “Loyal Party Primate” and “GoldenSea”? And worse… it had in its Terms and Conditions contract that you can publish you comic freely on its site, but in microscopic print so small you can only see it with an electron microscope it reads

“All comics are subject to editing in accordance to the rules of the Party, and may be used to promote Party Propaganda. Any attempt to circumvent our editing, or even the slightest protest to the Party itself carries the penalty of Death by Assassination Squad…”?

Maybe I should stop drinking coffee…

And I hear that they have a mafia over there.
I think they run mafia differently than we do. Like, I think they don't have narrations with clues…? Plus the people would be different unless we had some sort of mass exodus, but then…I can't imagine we'd be well-received. >_>;;

Thats what the Irish said. Now look at them. Diluted in with the american population.
Everyone claims to be them or atleast part of them.
Eventually we will have rubber ducks claiming that they where once duckers.

You'd be simultaneously well received and flayed alive; that seems to be the current trend anyway. And you could start your own brand of mafia - there's a cordoned off area for people who can't get enough forum games - not a pretty sight, but there it is.

Sunday shifts are nice too. Everyone seems to be in a better mood than throughout the rest of the week.

So what you're really implying is that as long as we all interbreed with the population there, the descendants will eventually be indistinguishable from the rest and also possibly wear stereotypical leprechaun hats? A heartening prospect indeed.

Skullbie could probably do photo comics about her chickens. I wish I could have one myself (I'm sorely tempted to ask my brother-in-law for one of his chickens, specifically a hen since he raises lots of roosters), but the neighborhood dogs around here have this tendency to break through/dig under/jump over fences to break open cages and killing any small animals inside… :(

Yesterday, I had my first kiss. It wasn't what I expected. Partly because I didn't expect it to come from a guy dressed as an Ottoman Empire Knight who was at least fifteen years older than me. Nor did I expect it to happen in front of a giant crowd at Ironfest with my mum watching.

He then started questioning my virginity, said I was a good sport for not cutting his balls off with the sword that I was carrying and skipped away merrily.

He reminded me of Baldric from Blackadder for some reason.

Surpsingly my mum thought it was hilarious.

Oh, and I have exams, mmmm exams. Sitting in “study” now, procrastinating on the internet. I've just realised that when have nothing on, the internet is incredibly boring, but when I have exams and things to procrastinate over, Everything suddenly becomes SO INTERESTING!

I just finished the English Exam, wrote an essay on “1984”, rambled on for several pages. Success!

How're you doing in the big fine city of New Orleans?

Whew, I have to stop going to bed at 4am. I dunno why I keep doing that, makes me feel like shiz the next day.

@Same- “Rubber Duckers” hahaha! I love that! But somehow I think we'd be more flattered that annoyed if DD ex-pats start mentioning their connection to us ^_^
We can start a Drunk Duck pub franchise! That would rock. I vote for barmaids in green feathered showgirl outfits.

I really dislike people second guessing my graphic design jobs. If I come up with a kick-arse look for something it pisses me off no end to have some person come along and say “no, I think we should go with this…”. GAH! My design is cool, yours isn't, it's based on a stale old thing I made two years ago. Let me do my own thing >:{

In other news, I heard, ON the news, that some people might loose their jobs for wearing some T-shirts I designed for them.
-Members of the hospital workers union here. The T-shirt proclaims their union affiliation and also their opposition to government privatisation, so being threatened about their jobs is sort of the reaction they want. The T-shirt job was pretty simple stuff but it's cool that something I did played a small but significant part in a current event here :)

So on November 3 the wife and I are off to Rome! Huge 14 day trans-Atlantic re-postioning cruise Rome-Florence-Toulon-Spain-Azores to Florida. Spent hours yesterday going over hotels with my sister for our one and half day stay in Rome. She's been to Rome three times so she knows something.

All the travel books say go off on your own and not with a tour. I'm not wandering by myself anywhere they don't speak a language I understand. I wouldn't trust most Americans to go wandering around London by themselves let alone Rome.

This is going to be an adventure.

Now my sister is nagging me to start promoting my comic so I can build up a readership. Of course she hasn't read it but then she knows that you can promote the worst crap in the universe and get tons of people to pay attention.

Thanks, Bravo. I sorely missed DD. :)

Oz: Well, today I have to go help a friend film a commercial for her class project. It's supposed to be about this spray adhesive we use at our job making Mardi Gras floats. Should be delightfully cheezy.

In general, a rundown:
-broke up with my partner of 9 years. Bounced around on couches for a while.
-Had 3 jobs for a while. Now I have two: work at a weirdo coffeeshop, and work at a place that makes floats for Mardi Gras. I am a professional paper mache “artist”. Heh.
-Am dating/living with a wonderful man that happens to be 23 years my senior.
-Am addicted to facebook; it's kind of replaced my one-time addiction to the DD forums.
-Keep threatening to “set up my print studio”.
-Continue to drink and smoke too much.

That's all I can think of.

I've been sitting on this idea for couple of weeks now…

Since the name change is such a final decision and we're about to lose the “Drunk” out of the title, how about we create some sort of community project about the lives and times of our drunken fowl and the events that caused him to sober up?
Those were my two cents.

It's a nice idea, but I'm a little soured on community projects.

A handful of people is Not a fair representation, and my project has no drawing involved, so that probably makes a big difference. But it's very frustrating to think something has some support, and then there's only about 10% who come through.

Ask mikemacdee for his opinion on follow through.

That sounds fun! In a morbid sort of way… Well his story is kind of depressing if you think about it, all those people exploiting his drunk state.

What did you have in mind for the community part of it though?

How about recasting Ray Milland's part in “Lost Weekend” with our recovering alcoholic duck?

Maybe have it all start with a tragic screening of Howard the Duck and then it all goes downhill from there.

Speaking of ducks they were out in force on the way home from work. There are a few ponds in Asbury Park and families of ducks, swans and geese along with the wonderful “duck crossing” signs.

I'm sunburnt from the measly half hour i spent outside mowing the lawn…
——-

My wife is pissed at me. We were looking at a house. it was very cheap for the local area, and in great condition for the price. Someone bought it before i made a decision about whether or not it was a good investment. she got mad.
Tonight we looked at one that was basically the regular price, with regular work done. we'd neither make money or lose money on it. And i didn't want to put an offer down, she went berserk crying that we'll never find a house if i keep deliberating on if it's worth it, telling me i was a mean person for not letting her get what she wants. So i put an offer in on the house, then she asked me “if i liked it”

and…i'm an honest person. literally had “honesty is the best policy” beat into me. (story for a different time). so i said “i only chose this house because you said you wanted it, and for me it's a lose lose. So i took the option with the least amount of yelling” (i said this, i didn't yell it, i wasn't agitated.
Then she went berserk, telling me that she didn't want me making a decision that wouldn't make me happy.

sigh. you lose some, you lose some.

I wanted to post that comic, where it talks about where a guy does wrong, and then apologizes, and then a woman does wrong, and the man still apologizes. but i can't find it.

lol!

That reminds me of this thing I read on the Ars Technica website a while ago:
It was a story about a game conference where at the end they had a competition for who out of the audience would be able to have a guest spot on the panel to say something and this really clever and sneaky guy gamed it so he won…
But people were bitchy dicks and disqualified him.

Anyway, the people in the comments section brought up that Star Treck Maru thing, sort of ironically initially, and then they started SERIOUSLY discussing it and debating and arguing it.
Scary…
I man, it's fine to debate about stuff in a fictional story, but to seriously debate about a fictional event in relation to a real situation as if they're BOTH comparable real situations is pretty surreal.

It's one psychological dynamic of the interpersonal relationship that is marriage. At the end of the day I still love my wife no matter how many no-win situations I find myself in. Compromise.

There are plenty of simulations that have “cheat modes” And that was before Kirk. It's based on military simulations and gaming to see reactions of those involved as opposed to solving the problem. I went through it but it's more common in the situational wargaming they do in command units.

And plenty of sick people who create these games love Star Trek and no-win situations. The Naval War college loves gaming Midway and it took fifty years for someone to replicate the historical result. Everyone else lost as the Americans. Midway was a real-life no-win desperate situation. And the US Navy toggled the cheat mode and won, because the cheat mode in real life is called luck

I wanted to mow the lawn but it's rained the past four days. So the grass grows uncontrollably and I'll have to cut my way through a jungle when it finally stops raining.
