more like DrunkDuck used to be in the days Ozone was describing above I imagine.

I bet this guy actually keeps backups though.

And of course Ozone fails to mention that DD only allowed 1 upload a day back then unless you were a paying member.

What I like about it is the guy who runs the show is right there, always tinkering with the site and open to suggestions.

Yeah I just discvered that, haha he found my post on here where I said CF was “Good but not great” and wanted to know how he could fix it pretty much five minutes after I posted.

I agree that DD is still a bit better. Provided the community bounces back from this. Right now it's a LOT more vacant here than usual in the forums.

Kyo really is on the ball though. Did you tell him what you liked better about DD? I wonder if he'd like to know what I liked better? In the end it's mostly opinions though.

Nah, I told him some navigation issues I was having the site. Said that maybe the ability to embed youtube videos on the fourms like on here might nice, but I didn't really preach on about it though. I got the impression he was desperate for feedback, but I'm so computer illiterate I doubt I helped in anyway.

Okay… I've got an account on there now, but I won't do any “official” introduction (in other words I'll be lurking) ‘til I’ve got a comic on there. I'm going to put a new comic up on CF… an “adult” comic about a guy who's shipwrecked on an island… full of women… And if you think he's going to have every guy's dream, there's just one problem. He's Erotophobic. Um… Go look that up if you don't know what that word means… :)

Or maybe not… yet… I need a plastic eraser. Or I'll just have to wait 'til I can buy a new tablet. :)

*sees the look of dread, anger, and hate on people's faces after his post…*

O… kay…. I'll have to use stealth on this one…

Ugh… or maybe I'll just use my Magiversity related idea about this young mage who keeps visiting other webcomic universes and having weird adventures in them… and is being pursued by an enigmatic universe traveller who's really ticked off that she's making him do a lot of work… :)

How about those that want the forums to bounce back make a concerted effort to breath some life back into it? It's not so easy when people aren't posting but the more activity there is the more newbies are likely to get involved.

Heh… I've had people mad at me for even drawing nude people in a comic. Usually the people looking over my shoulder. And sometimes I get angry emails about it too. ugh…

oh, no…

I'm listening to Lovely Day by Bill Withers, and suddenly a dirty parody of the song pops into my mind… let's just say it involves a bit of… well… um…. just replace the words “Lovely Day” in the original song with the word “ma*****ate”… O_O

I guess living alone and being single ends up getting my brain into the gutter… O_O

No, that was pre-crash. Post crash after Volte6 rebuilt there was of course no paying features in the site :)

Kyo… that name is familiar. Isn't he the one that tried to hack DD all those years ago? The script kiddie?
I don't think he likes DD very much :)

Big awful headache. -_-
Man this is a busy week. I haven't been able to get any drawing done since Monday. On Tuesday I decided to sew in front of the TV and actually WATCH what is on tv for once:
What a massive load of crap. The ads every two seconds really ruin your concentration… Family guy was on a lot and I forgot how awful that show is. They had some American Dad too though, which is a much better show.

I think next time I sew in front of the TV I'll put on some DVDs as usual.

I'm glad I BUY my TV episodes via my XBox 360. 27 episodes of The Universe, several episodes of TOS and Enterprise Star Trek, and a few miscellaneous stuff… and no commercials to get in the way. Too bad I can't setup a playlist to play them all one after the other. :(

Wait… we paid for features precrash? I guess I don't remember because I had signed up and put Magiversity on DD a few months before the crash. And me being the idiot back then didn't have backups of the comic. Which was a good thing, since I decided to redraw the comic and redo the story.

Wait… we paid for features precrash? I guess I don't remember because I had signed up and put Magiversity on DD a few months before the crash.
Before the crash you could pay for some special features- like more than one update and some other things… it was about $11 a year. No one else was allowing any of that stuff then so it was a good deal.
But since then most sites have copied DD's template and added new stuff while this site has been in stasis since Plat left us mothballed.
That's why we NEED that new version of the site finished; so we CAN have new features, better speed and updates. Regardless of the no HTML editing, weird forums and extra ads, it'll still be way better than it is now.

I just want the change to happen and damn the detractions. Been waiting too long.
The way it stands right now is that the change will only happen once Lawrence is sure that everything people want is all on the new site.

Gods, plural. Bit of a giveaway. Quite amusing though.

I tend to avoid comics that ram things down your throat though, Mag-isa excluded though that is somehow captivating, mostly due to Kyupol's rants. I may not agree with him but it's intriguing. I was working on a fairly political and social comic but it's fallen by the wayside for now. It wasn't a statement so much as an exploration of ideas, maybe someday.

And I can't claim that this squabble about DD > tD > keeping content provider control > etc, etc., is all that has brought on a certain melancholy for me.

but yes, life is about change. and weathering the storms.

I'm known for weathering storms.

It's that melancholy that made me start an account over there. All the crying, bitching and moaning over here got to me because I believe in Fuck it drive on

I'm also testing the water someplace else. I am not jumping ship. I have great hopes for the future here. But I also want to expand my horizons beyond just one forum.

All this talk of community sends up red flags for me. You dare to question the sense of community? APOSTATE! Ostracize the rat bastard!

Clever editing effects with the “no” there ^^

I think it's because Americans are typically a lot more sensitive about religion than us. Whereas most Aussies couldn't give a stuff either way, anything with “god” in it or anything vaguely biblical is more significant to many of them (not all, obviously), weather they're pro or anti religion.

That would make a cool topic for the D&D thread, people love to argue about that sort of thing, but I wonder how you'd frame it…?
“Are some cultures more sensitive about religion?”
“Are you really an atheist if you still worry about the religion of others?”

It's funny. I remember reading that the classic song Heaven (Must Be There) by the Aussie band Eurogliders got a really weird reception when they toured in the states. It was really popular with religious radio stations and some people were really put off by it because they thought it was about Christian themes, when in reality they were just using words like “Heaven” and “Eden” as convenient metaphors, as you'd expect.

————–
If I still had the time to update my comic frequently, I'd move my main comic site to a self hosted one and mirror on DD again, just because DD is a bit draggy and slow for readers at the moment if they want to go through your archive. Plus, I'd want full control over every aspect.
But I'd still hang around the forums of course.

Maaaan, I can't shake this stupid nonsensical mindset. “I'm feeling a little morose, so I'll stay up all night long isolating myself. That'll perk me right up!” IT'S NOT WORKING. D:

After reading about it a bit, I find it hard to believe people would think that. I guess for them the cover on the book matters more than what's inside.

heh… my personal programming lessons have advanced a bit. I can read/write files and create an options menu for the game I've got planned. Too bad I can no longer use the name “Drunkduck Shooters” since the name is about to go. Maybe I can call it the “Webcomical Shooter” since it's supposed to parody the various webcomics out there (imagine Pinky T.A. and her flame rifle setting fires to enemies in Megatokyo for instance). Gotta figure out how I'm going to create the music for the game. Each character with their own theme song when they fly in (the same way Parodius does it). I could put in a girl who has two diefic imaginary friends as a playable character, but she may not last long…

And if you're curious as to what kind of game I'm trying to learn to make, well…

This, this, or maybe even THIS!!!

Programming isn't as easy as it looks… I keep finding my brain smoking during my learning sessions.

Yeah I know, but in their defence, they were 15. So it really shouldn't be a problem, though now I'm wondering if anyone else does think that? Despite the name being plural and the story being very viking related…

It took me several minutes, but I felt it was needed, I'm glad it wasappriciated. :D. But they people who mentioned it were aussie. Some girls in the year below me who saw me drawing a page. Though that is a really intresting topic, I demand a forum topic be made about it. Forthwith!

Wtf? It WAS the same guy?

No, I'm not suggesting that Ironscarf, I'm saying that a person that does what the person who attacked DD did can not be fully trusted.
And “testing security” is a lie. The stuff that he was trying to do on the site was really pretty f-ing bad. If there had have been credit card numbers you can be sure he'd have tried to get ‘em. ;)
I’ll leave it at that.
Interesting that you're coming out with that- Has he actually tried to justify that behaviour? o_O

We have had many genuine users test our security before who have been very helpful. Believe me, there is a gigantic difference between a script-kiddie attack and people who are genuinely out to help.

I think it'd start off all right, like with most of those related threads, but in the end its just a lot of angry caps lock sentences and people calling other people Nazis, which then immidiately activates Godwin's law and ends the thread.

Why can't people just have a good natured debate about a subject without resorting to yelling and carrying on as hilarious as it is to watch sometimes?
