About

Name: Loran Skinkis.
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Favorite Comic Artists: Curt Swan, Steve Ditko, Joe Shuster and many many more!
I'm a 37 year old Illustrator and graphic designer. (actually, isn't almost everyone on this site an Illustrator/Graphic Designer?) I love comics, especially smelly old newsprint comics. (the older the better!) I work a day job doing mindless ad creation and design (the kind of stuff you throw away in local “Value Magazine” or “City Paper”), but at night I sharpen my pencil put on my mask and cape and become a comic illustrator for Night Owl Comics.

UPDATE!
August 2nd, 2012
WOW! I haven't been to “The Duck” for quite a while. (Back in my day it was known as “Drunk Duck”) The changes that have been made are pretty cool and the talent here contines to get better and bettter. I'm now unemployed or as most know it as “freelance artist for hire”. I'm kind of in the mood to do a web comic and “The Duck” is where it's going to be. Not sure if it will be a continuation of one of my old comics or something entirely new. (Perhaps a parody of my last job which was 7 years of stress wrapped up in chaos with a sprinkling of insanity) Either way it will be fun.
See ya soon!

UPDATE!!
July 15th, 2014
….I'M BACK!!!! (again)
I'm not going to (over) promise that I'm going to post on a “regular” basis…but I'm going to try!
Many…many…MANY things have happened since I stopped posting on a regular basis back in ‘08. I see that “Drunk Duck” is now just “The Duck”. Good for him, there must have been an intervention.
A lot of folks I used to correspond with here seem to have migrated elsewhere but some have stuck around. I look forward to saying hi to old and new alike.
Recently, I looked at other web comic hosting sites but honestly I like the look and feel of The Duck and I have a lot of material here so I’m stickin' with The Duck!
Among other news.
Remember that “day job” that I used to complain about? Stress, insanity & causing me to loose my hair?
Well, I lost my day job of 7 years back in October 2011. That was the most dramatic event.
In between that time I've bounced around with a lot of things. I've been just “unemployed” but that got old after a short while. Worked freelance (still do). Worked retail & in a warehouse unloading trucks at Christmas time (Great workout for small pay). I've worked for a school district as a lunch aide and a paraprofessional and I've worked in the security field.
Why these jobs and not an “art job” you ask?
I've been asking myself that some question.
Honestly, when I was “let go” I thought I was at the top of my game.
Turns out that if you want to be a graphic designer in this day and age you have to be somewhat of a programmer as well. While I was working I had that “feeling” that I should have been going back to school but because I was “comfortable” I always put it off. Big mistake. Live and learn. Some schooling is definitely in my future. I DID manage to get another “day job” but it has nothing to do with art and a lot to do with headaches…more on that later.
Hope you enjoy the posts of Electric Owl #3, 4 and beyond.
I have a few other comics that I've been wanting to put out there for public review.
If you get a chance, check out my new website: SKINKIS.com! (drop me a line and say “HI!”)
If you're on Twitter, go ahead and follow me @loranskinkisart and I'll most likely follow ya back!
Stay tuned…
-Loran.
